NEHS HIGHLANDER STUDENT NEWS

Safety/Lockdown Drill - Coming April 30th

Highlander Families,

Throughout the school year, schools are required to conduct various safety drills.  We practice monthly fire drills (EVACUATION), along with the other safety drills associated with our Standard Response Protocol (SRP).  Tuesday, April 30th, we will be conducting a scripted LOCKDOWN drill. While oftentimes drills are conducted without prior notice, we understand that these types of drills can be particularly stressful for everyone. While it is critical we practice drills in order to prepare our staff and students, we also acknowledge the stress this can trigger, and want to ensure families are prepared to support students with any anxiety this may cause their student.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Walk+Roll May Challenge
Come join us this May 8 as our school participates in the Walk+Roll May Challenge, celebrating
keeping active and getting ready for a fun summer.

Walk or roll with your student to school this Wednesday to be part of the fun. If you’re on your way
somewhere else and plan on driving to your next destination, consider walking and taking transit (see
Google maps for available transit routes to/from your destination: https://www.google.com/maps), or
park/drop your child off a block or two away from the school to walk the rest of the way in. If you’re not
able to join, encourage your child to walk or roll with a friend.

4J COMMUNITY NEWS
ND Night Family Support

We are so honored to have Laura Dahill, with The Arc Lane, who oversees our local Family Network as our speaker.  She will be covering the topic of "Strengthening Families through Community Support".  Laura is so very passionate, committed and a wealth of information about every aspect of what she does!! She will share the many advocacy tools, opportunities and resources that are offered to families throughout our community, including respite evenings.

It will be a marvelous evening of connecting and learning what is available to you as a parent, caregiver or educator... to know of and learn about the natural supports and paid services that are available to families and caregivers for a child's fulfilling future.

Bring a couple of friends & please pass this along to parents, friends and colleagues...we are a much richer community when we come together to learn of resources and opportunities that we never realized existed or were available...who knows, perhaps someone's life will be dramatically impacted because you took a moment to share this.

**Our next ND Family Support Night will be June 5.  We are super excited to have a wonderful Licensed Professional Counselor who is also a Registered Play Therapist as our speaker ✅

PeaceHealth Clinic Open House
As you know, we’ve been feeling a bit disconnected from the North community.  Maybe a quarter of the students I am seeing at our North Eugene Health Center are North students which is unprecedentedly low; I’m seeing more elementary and middle school students which is OK but I’m worried that the North community is not familiar with who we are and I want to make sure our students know about our resource.
So, we are hosting an open house next Wednesday 5/1/24 3-6 PM and are hoping that you could forward this invitation to your entire North staff and maybe encourage them at your staff meeting that day to stop by and check us out following the meeting.  😊

With the new building, we’ve been able to see more students more efficiently with two exam rooms, an individual therapy office and a conference room where group therapy is happening.  Would love to share it with the whole North team.
